  1. I do not want to give my visa. This roku is for my younger sibling. My mother signed my other sibling without a Visa.

    • Hello Karlyn,

I’m not sure where you don’t want to use your VISA but if you mean in the Roku setup don’t worry. Once you complete the setup simply delete your ‘payment settings’ to permanently remove the VISA from the profile. I have done this during my setup and never had a single charge to the VISA or any other issue with it.

      Merry Christmas,

  2. hello;
i need to ask that by buying Roku will i be able to see the Asian channels too means Pakistani and Indian???
and also what type of TV this box supports??

    • Hello Syed,

The Roku does have services/channels that cater to Asian markets however I’m not sure how good the coverage is as I haven’t used them myself. I do know that there is free content for the groups you mentioned and even some paid coverage with services like SlingTV, check it out here.

Also check out this article, here, for a discussion of the content available to international markets via SlingTV.

As for what TVs work with the Roku that depends on the Roku model. They generally work with HD ready TVs that use HDMI connections. However there are a few Roku models that support RCA (Composite connection). Best place to get the specifics on which supports which is the Roku Wiki webpage, here.

I would suggest choosing from the latest generations of models. The Third generation Roku 2 (4210) and Roku 3 (4230), as well as the Fourth and Fifth generation models are the easiest to find to purchase and have the most up to date components.

    • Hello Jennifer,

Before looking for a replacement try some quick troubleshooting:

      Try pairing the remote again.

      – Open the battery compartment by removing the battery cover.
      – Press and hold the pairing button until you see the pairing LED begin to flash.
      – The remote pairing dialog should appear on your TV screen.

If that doesn’t work Roku has provided some possible solutions, here.

If that doesn’t work you could try Amazon for possible replacements.

      Best of luck!

  3. Hello!
    1) Is Roku legal in Canada?
    2) After I get the Roku device, do I need to pay any company on a monthlybasis?

    • Hey Jorge!

      1. Roku is absolutely legal in Canada!
      2. There is no necessary monthly payments after purchasing a Roku you can browse the free content or simply use channels like PLEX to stream to your TV from your computer(s). The best services however are generally subscription based such as Netflix, Hulu, SlingTV, etc. There are several good free channels like YouTube, Crackle, Pandora, etc.

  4. HI , I live in Québec City. I’ve just bought the Roku3.
My question is : Can we surf on the internet too access website like or ?
My boyfriend is only speak french and except for Netflix , i did not found any French Chanel …?
    Thanks ¸

    • Hello Andreanne,

I’m not very familiar with the French channel offerings on the Roku. I can tell you other than projecting from your smartphone to the Roku you won’t be able to surf websites like you would on a computer.

However with my SlingTV article which will help you gain access to SlingTV offerings in Canada you can add the “French Bouquet” channel package for $15USD/mnth to gain access to some french language channels. See image below:

      Happy Streaming!
